Abstract
A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, device that determines a presence of a first communication device being nearby and engaged in an active voice call with a second communication device. An offer to transcribe a portion of the active voice call is presented in response to the determination. An audio portion of the active voice call is transcribed in response to an acceptance of the offer, to generate a textual transcription. The textual transcription is provided for presentation on a first display device. In response to detecting a presence of the first communication device being nearby another device, provision of the textual transcription to the first display device is discontinued, while the textual transcription is provided to the other device for presentation at a second display device. Other embodiments are disclosed.
