Abstract

Systems () and methods () for providing customer service based theft deterrent. The method comprises: identifying each item of a plurality of items that is being removed from display equipment by the person; determining whether the person is performing an action associated with a potential theft of the item that was previously removed from the display equipment by the person; and perform actions to initiate a customer service based interaction in response to a determination that the person is performing the action associated with the potential theft of the item. The customer service based interaction is initiated with the person such that the person is deterred from committing theft. Notably, the person is at a location within a facility other than at an exit of the facility when the customer service based interaction occurs.
