Abstract

A method for performing measurements in a digital cellular wireless telecommunication network is provided. An embodiment of the method includes determining free resources of a set of cells of the telecommunication network, determining a subset of the plurality of mobile devices, setting the subset of the plurality of mobile devices into a probing mode, determining the location of the subset of mobile devices in the probing mode, exchanging test signals between the mobile devices in the probing mode and the base stations of the set of cells, performing a plurality of measurements of signal strengths and/or signal powers of the test signals, determining average values from the plurality of measurements, and storing the average values of the plurality of measurements to provide a result of the measurement.
