Abstract

A display device having a simple circuit configuration and capable of lowering power consumption, and a drive method for the display device are provided. Rectangular wave voltage which changes between positive voltage Vand 0 volt in cycle which is two times of cycle during which an optical state of an optical layer is changed is applied to an opposite electrode of a screen in a reverse mode. Pulse voltage which becomes a potential difference between electrodes of which optical state is changed when the optical state of the optical layer is changed is applied to a control electrode in a superimposed manner on rectangular wave voltage which changes between positive voltage Vand 0 volt, which has the same cycle and the same phase as the rectangular wave voltage applied to the opposite electrode and which has the same value as V
