Abstract
Cardiac output is measured using a non-invasive method comprised of administering hyperbaric or hypobaric gas to the subject then after a time measuring the resultant changes in central or peripheral oxygen saturation times using a pulse oximeter located at a peripheral body site. Preferably the device is portable and is comprised of a gas cartridge, with one or more doses, and a mouth-piece, a microprocessor for performing the analysis, a pulse oximeter probe and a display for reporting the cardiac output.
