Abstract

A recording medium includes an encryption/decryption control unit, an authentication control unit, a non-volatile memory, and a volatile memory. The volatile memory stores recorded-position information of data recorded in a data recording area of the non-volatile memory under an unauthenticated condition that an authentication procedure by the authentication control unit has not been performed. The recorded-position information stored in the volatile memory is erased by stopping power supply by detaching the recording medium from the apparatus body, and becomes unavailable in the recording medium even if the power is supplied again to the recording medium so that the data recorded in the data recording area under the unauthenticated condition is not read out.
