Abstract

The present invention describes a process for preparing alpha-beta-unsaturated carboxylic acids by dehydration of hydroxycarboxylic or alkoxycarboxylic acids which are substituted in the alpha position, in particular 2-hydroxyisobutyric acid, while avoiding accumulation of by-products and additives.
