Abstract

A smart card for use with a mobile communication device adapted to communicate over a cell-phone network, the smart card comprising: at least one communication port for communicating with a transceiver via a communication channel that is not a cell-phone channel; and a processor configured to receive from the transceiver an IMSI from a SIM having an authentication key, and an authentication response generated by the SIM responsive to the SIM's authentication key and a challenge by a cell-phone network, and to transmit the received IMSI and authentication response to the mobile communication device for transmission to the cell-phone network via a cell-phone communication channel provided by the cell-phone network.
