Abstract

Provided are compositions for attracting and/or stimulating oviposition. The compositions comprise a suitable carrier and a bacterium capable of producing nonanoic acid, tetradecanoic acid, or methyl tetradecanoate;; a supernatant of a culture of any of the these bacteria; nonanoic acid; tetradecanoic acid; or methyl tetradecanoate, or any combination thereof, at a concentration effective to attract the mosquito to a target. The compositions may be comprised within a kit or trap. Also provided are methods of attracting mosquitoes to a target.
