Abstract

A negative electrode for a lithium ion batteryincludes a negative electrode current collector, a negative electrode active material layer, and a lithium silicate layer. The negative electrode active material layercontains silicon. The lithium silicate layercontains lithium, oxygen, and silicon forming a Li—O—Si bond, and is formed at the interface between the negative electrode current collectorand the negative electrode active material layer. The negative electrode active material layerand the lithium silicate layermay be composed of columnar bodies.
