Abstract

Methods, microorganisms, and compositions are provided wherein oil reservoirs are inoculated with microorganisms belonging toclade 1 and medium including an electron acceptor. Thestrains grow in the oil reservoir to form plugging biofilms that reduce permeability in areas of subterranean formations thereby increasing sweep efficiency, and thereby enhancing oil recovery.
