Abstract

Provided is a fused ring compound which can exhibit sufficient charge transport properties and excellent solubility in a solvent. The fused ring compound is represented by general formula (1), wherein Rand Reach independently represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group, an alkylthio group, an alkylamino group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an optionally substituted aryl group having 6 to 60 carbon atoms, an optionally substituted heterocyclic group having 4 to 60 carbon atoms, or a cyano group, provided that at least one of Rand Ris not a hydrogen atom; Rand Reach independently represent a monovalent group, and n and m each independently denote an integer of 0 to 2; and Yand Yare each independently a divalent group comprising a sulfur atom, an oxygen atom, a nitrogen atom, a selenium atom or a tellurium atom.
