Abstract

The present invention provides a coating solution for producing an optical film and a method for producing the coating solution which has improved temporal stability and which is capable of preventing the occurrence of defects in a coating film when a magnesium fluoride film is formed by applying a coating solution containing magnesium fluorocarboxylate and then firing the coating solution. A coating solution for producing an optical film includes at least a magnesium compound represented by (CF3-X—COO)2Mg (wherein X represents a single bond or —CH2- which may be substituted by a fluorine atom), and a compound represented by general formula (1). A method for producing the coating solution is also provided.
