Process of a finger assignment in a rake receiver for a wireless communication device comprising the following steps: —detection () of a pilot (CPICH) and the comparison of its energy according to a first threshold value; —detection (), on the basis of said first threshold value, of a first significant path; —assignment () of said first significant path to a first finger of the rake receiver; —determination () of an observation window; —application () of a second threshold value, distinct and lower than said first value, for the detection of secondary paths; —rake fingers assignment to secondary paths detected.
