A magnetic field generating device includes a triaxial Helmholtz coil, amounting tableon which a portable deviceis mounted, a current supplying partand a controlling part. The current supplying partsupplies current I to individual three monoaxial Helmholtz coilswhich construct the triaxial Helmholtz coil. The controlling partchanges the current flowing through the individual monoaxial Helmholtz coilsin such a manner that a synthetic magnetic field of a magnetic field generated within the triaxial Helmholtz coilby the current I and an external magnetic field which acts from the outside into the triaxial Helmholtz coilacts on a triaxial magnetic sensorwithin the portable devicemounted on the mounting tablefrom a plurality of predetermined directions.
