A reagent of the formulaRRN—ZnY LiY  (I)wherein Rand Rare independently, selected from H, aryl or heteroaryl, linear, branched or cyclic, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, or silyl derivatives thereof; and Rand Rtogether form part of a cyclic or polymeric structure; Rand/or Ris not H; Y is F, Cl, Br, I, CN, SCN, NCO or HalO, wherein n=3 or 4 and Hal is Cl, Br or I; NO; BF; PF; H; a carboxylate of formula RCO; an alcoholate of formula OR; a thiolate of formula SR; RP(O)O; or SCOR; or SCSR; OSR; wherein n=2 or 3; or NO, wherein n=2 or 3; and a derivative thereof; wherein Ris an aryl or heteroaryl, linear, branched or cyclic, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, or derivatives thereof, or H; or as adduct with a solvent; and preparation and use thereof.
