Abstract

A method comprising a step of stirring a composition containing a biphenol compound represented by the formula (1): wherein, Rand Rrepresent each independently an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, and m and n represent each independently an integer of 0 to 2, a secondary alcohol and a nickel catalyst, for producing a hydroxyphenylcyclohexanol compound represented by the formula (2): wherein, R, R, m and n represent the same meaning as described above, with the proviso that the above-described secondary alcohol has a different structure from that of the hydroxyphenylcyclohexanol compound represented by the above-described formula (2).
