Abstract

An inflatable vehicle occupant protection device () is provided for being inflated with inflation fluid towards a seat () of the vehicle (). The protection device includes a front portion () presented towards the vehicle seat () and helping to define an inflatable volume (). The front portion () includes a pair of extensions () overlaid on one another and interconnected to form a pocket () defining a collapsed volume () outside the inflatable volume (). The pocket () extends horizontally across the front portion () and towards the inflatable volume (). A tether () has a first end portion () secured to both interconnected extensions () and a second end portion () secured to a portion of the protection device such that the size of the pocket () remains larger than a predetermined amount when the protection device is fully inflated.
