Abstract
At least either a first substrate or a second substrate has regions corresponding to subpixels () and provided with ribs () for controlling how a liquid crystal material is aligned. Scanning signal lines () and picture element electrodes () are overlapped with each other via an insulating material as seen in plan view. The ribs () and the scanning signal lines () are at least partially overlapped with each other as seen in plan view.
