Abstract

A control system includes an upstream nitrogen oxide (NO) control module that increases an upstream NOlevel based on an initial upstream NOlevel in an exhaust system, and an ammonia (NH) storage condition detection module that detects a NHstorage condition based on a difference in a downstream NOlevel before and after the upstream NOlevel is increased. A method includes increasing an upstream NOlevel based on an initial upstream NOlevel in an exhaust system, and detecting an NHstorage condition based on a difference in a downstream NOlevel before and after the upstream NOlevel is increased.
