Provided is an organic EL element, wherein the thickness of the organic EL element can be made small and the width of a seal can be made narrower, and change in light-emitting quality over time can be inhibited. The organic EL element () is configured to be provided with: a second electrode () provided so as to cover an organic compound layer (); an inorganic insulation film () formed within a prescribed area within a non light-emitting area of a first electrode (), and formed between the first electrode () and the second electrode (); an inorganic film () provided so as to cover the second electrode (); a sealing resin layer () provided so as to cover the inorganic film (); and a sealing base material () provided upon the sealing resin layer ().
