Abstract

A liquid crystal display device () includes a plurality of pixels disposed in a matrix form. The liquid crystal display device () is driven such that, after a common data voltage is applied to liquid crystal layers of sub pixels disposed in each of the pixels, the transmittance of the liquid crystal layer of a sub pixel which is positioned closest to a boundary between a retarder plate (RR) and a retarder plate (RL) will be decreased. The maximum value of the transmittance of the liquid crystal layers of the sub pixels in a first display mode is smaller than that in a second display mode.
