Abstract

The present invention thus provides a method for producing L-lactic acid, which comprises the step of culturing a lactic acid bacterium that can produce L-lactic acid in a medium containing any one selected from the group consisting of cellobiose, cellooligosaccharides, xylose, arabinose, and glucose derived from cellulose and/or hemicellulose as a substrate to obtain L-lactic acid. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention,NITE BP-965 can be used.
