Abstract
A network service provider and an application service provider may maintain synchronized states of which users have opted-in and which have opted-out of messaging services. In one implementation, a method may include receiving a text message from a user device and determining, based on a presence of one or more keywords in the text message, whether the text message is an opt-in or opt-out message associated with a messaging service hosted by one or more servers. The method may further include modifying, when it is determined that the text message is an opt-in or opt-out message, the text message to add a parameter to the text message, the parameter having a first value when the text message is an opt-in message and a second value when the text message is an opt-out message. The modified text message may be transmitted towards the one or more servers.
