Abstract

The invention relates to a belt retractor () for a seatbelt, comprising a belt reel () for winding up and unwinding the seatbelt, and a lockable locking base () which is connected to the belt reel () and, before locking, is rotated together with the belt reel () and, after locking, the rotational movement of said locking base is blocked, wherein, in the event of locking of the locking base () for limiting the belt force, the locking base () and the belt reel () can rotate relative to each other. According to the invention, the belt retractor has a band () which, in the event of a relative rotation between belt reel and locking base, is pulled into a gap (), said gap () being defined by at least one deformable element () which is deformed by the band () pulled into the gap ().
