Abstract
A connector system includes a connector plug and a connector receptacle. The connector plug includes a tapered surface, one or more plug-side electrical contacts on the tapered surface, and electrically insulating portions on the tapered surface. The connector receptacle includes a tapered socket and one or more socket-side electrical contacts. The socket-side electrical contacts electrically couple with corresponding plug-side electrical contacts when the connector plug is coupled in the socket. One or more of the socket-side electrical contacts or the plug-side electrical contacts extends around one of the tapered surfaces such that the electrical contract electrically couples with a mating electrical contact regardless of the orientation of the connector plug in the connector socket.
