Abstract

A handheld electronic device is provided with a function of text disambiguation. The device detects an ambiguous input including a number of selections of a number of keys, and displays a plurality of outputs for a duration of time based on an elapsed time between the number of selections of the number of keys. Each of the plurality of outputs corresponds to the ambiguous input. At least one of the plurality of outputs is an orphan prefix corresponding to the ambiguous input.
