Abstract
A process for treating a polysaccharide with a dialdehyde in the presence of from 10 to 40 weight percent of water, based on the total weight of polysaccharide and water, is beneficially conducted in a mixing device characterized by a FROUDE number FRof larger than 11, wherein ωis the angular frequency in sec-1 and is defined as 2*π*RPM/60, RPM is the rotational speed of the mixing device in revolutions per minute, Ris the radius of the mixing device in m, and g is the acceleration due to gravity in m/s.
