Abstract

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer, pixels a first polarizer having a first absorption axis, a second polarizer having a second absorption axis, a first retardation film having a first slow axis, and a second retardation film having a second slow axis. Each of the pixels includes a primary pixel electrode and a pair of primary common electrodes. Re<Reholds, Re+Re=150±50 nm holds for light having a wavelength of 550 nm, and Rth+Rth=−10±50 nm holds for the light having the wavelength of 550 nm.
