Abstract

A projector includes a solid-state light source, a diffuser member, an excitation light source, a phosphor, a light modulator, a projection system, a first and a second light blocking members. When the area, viewed in the direction of the optical axis of diffused light, of an opening of the first light blocking member and the area of a portion over which the first light blocking member blocks the diffused light are defined as Aand A, respectively; the area, viewed in the direction of the optical axis of fluorescence, of an opening of the second light blocking member and the area of a portion over which the second light blocking member blocks the fluorescence are defined as Band B, respectively, the ratio A/Ais greater than the ratio B/B
