Abstract

The invention relates to a device for measuring the relative position of two objects moving relative to each other along an axis or around a rotating axis (D), with a transmitter () which emits unpolarized light, and with a polarizer (), and with at least one receiver () which measures the luminosity of the light passing through the polarizer () in order to create a position-dependent signal, such that a polarizing filter is positioned in front of the receiver (), and the receiver () and the polarizer () move relative to each other as a function of the relative position of the two objects, and such that the polarizer () has at least two different polarizing directions.
