Electrolyte for an electrolyte-supported high-temperature fuel cell includes zirconium(IV) oxide doped with from 3.5 mol % to 6.5 mol % of ytterbium(III) oxide. The electrolyte has a thermal expansion coefficient (TEC) based on 30° C. of from 10.6*10Kto 11.1*10Kat 800° C.
