Abstract

To provide a liquid crystal compound having a large negative value of dielectric anisotropy (Δ∈). A compound is represented by formula (1): wherein, in formula (1), one of Yand Yis fluorine, and the other is CFH or CF; G is a ring represented by formula (pr-1) or formula (pr-2): wherein Ato Aare independently 1,4-cyclohexylene or 1,4-phenylene; Rand Rare independently hydrogen, alkyl having 1 to 20 carbons, or the like; Z, and Zto Zare independently a single bond, —(CH)—, —CH═CH—, —CFO—, —OCF—, —CHO—, —OCH—, —COO— or —OCO—; j, m and n are an integer from 0 to 2, and a sum of j, m and n is 0, 1 or 2, however, when m is 0, Yis CFH or CF, Yis fluorine, and Zis a single bond, G is a ring represented by formula (pr-1).
