Abstract

A spherical annular seal memberincludes a spherical annular base memberdefined by a cylindrical inner surface, a partially convex spherical surface, and annular end faces, as well as an outer layerformed integrally on the partially convex spherical surface. The spherical annular base memberincludes a reinforcing membermade from a metal wire netand a heat-resistant materialcontaining expanded graphite and a phosphate and integrated with the reinforcing memberin mixed form, and the outer layer includes the heat-resistant materialcontaining the expanded graphite and the phosphate and the reinforcing membermade from the metal wire netintegrated with the heat-resistant materialin mixed form, the expanded graphite in the heat-resistant materialhaving an ash content of not more than 0.1% by mass and a graphite content of not less than 99.7% by mass.
