Abstract

The invention relates to a piston () for an internal combustion engine. Said piston comprises a piston head (), a piston skirt () and a peripheral recess () between the piston head () and the piston skirt (), an annular peripheral cooling channel (), which is open towards the bottom and which is closed by a closing element (), being provided in the piston head (), and the piston skirt () having fillets () which are connected to the bottom of the piston skirt () and interconnected via bearing surfaces (). According to the invention, at least one projection () is formed in the region of a free end face () of the bearing surfaces () and extends radially into a region of the cooling channel (), said projection matching an opening () in the closing element () of the cooling channel ().
