Abstract

The invention provides the use of an extract of a plant of the genusand at least one compound selected from quercitin-3'-O-glucoside, trans-3-O-galloyl-3,3′,5,5′,7-pentahydroxyflavan, taxifolin-3′-O-glucoside, catechin and epicatechin in the preparation of a medicament for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The mode of action is by a route selected from blocking the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone by inhibiting the 5α-reductase enzyme or by reducing oxidative stress or both.
