Abstract
A needle safety shieldfor use with a syringehaving a barrel, a needle and a plunger rod. The safety shieldhas a first tube. A second tubeis arranged for sliding movement within the first tube. A pinis connected to one of the first and second tubes. An activation ringhas a stop. A drive springbiases the activation ringin a proximal direction to place the stopin engagement with the pinto retain the first and second tubesin a retracted configuration. The movement of the plunger rodto engage the activation ringcompresses the drive spring, moving the activation ringdistally, and moving the stopout of engagement with the pin, allowing the drive springto move the first and second tubesinto an extended configuration.
