Abstract

A process for preparing an ester of formula (I):RCH—(CRR)—CH—O—CO—(CRR)—CHR  (I)wherein n is 1-3 and Rand Rare each, independently, a hydrogen atom or a carbon-linked organic group and Ris a carbon-linked organic group, is provided by hydrogenation of a certain lactone, carboxylic acid or its ester reactant.
