Abstract

A system and method for sharing and absorbing energy between adjacent body parts includes a system which facilitates absorbing energy between members forming a joint, such as between articulating bones. An exemplary embodiment of the system includes a first attachment structure, a second attachment structure, a piston component, and an energy absorbing spring component. The spring component is attached only to one of the first attachment structure and the second attachment structure, and the piston component is attached only to the other of the first attachment structure and the second attachment structure.
