Abstract

Topical compositions containing from about 40% to about 77% by weight of the composition of a humectant component, said component containing from about 0.25% to about 7% of a structuring humectant selected from polyethylene glycols having an average molecular weight of from about 3,000 to about 8,000, and mixtures thereof; and at least one secondary humectant; the topical composition further comprises abrasive from about 5% to about 35%; from about 0% to about 1.5% of a viscosity modifier; a total solids content of 50% or less; water from about 5% to about 12%; and wherein the structuring humectant is added to the composition in solution with solvent or is added in a controlled manner as a molten material to the composition at a temperature less than about 35° C. and with turbulent mixing or vigorous agitation.
