Abstract

A protective cover () for an instrument dome () extending from a body () of a vehicle, such as a missile. The cover () includes multiple segments (and) having trailing ends () connectable to the body () at joints () that allow for rotational movement. The cover () further includes a releasable holder () that includes a retention device () that holds leading ends () of the segments (and) together, and a release mechanism () for causing the retention device () to release the leading ends (). The joints () hold the trailing ends () of the segments (and) to the body () through a predetermined range of motion beyond which the segments (and) will be released to separate from the body () when the segments (and) rotate beyond the predetermined range.
