Abstract

A detector array () includes a detector () configured to detect ionizing radiation and output a signal indicative of the detected radiation, wherein the detector at least includes a semiconductor element () and an illumination subsystem () configured to generate and transfer sub-band-gap illuminating radiation to selectively illuminate only a sub-portion of the semiconductor element in order to produce a spatially patterned illumination distribution inside the element.
