Abstract
A seat belt pretensioner having a housing, a belt shaft (), a load limiting device () and a pretensioner drive wheel () coupled to the belt shaft (). A coupling element () is fixed to the drive wheel () via a detachable connection, and can be locked by a blocking device (). An engagement wheel () is provided for connecting the belt shaft () with the pretensioner drive wheel () having engagement portions () engaging into corresponding recesses () on the belt shaft () or on the pretensioner drive wheel () and is fixed by the coupling element (). The detachable connection can be disconnected by locking of the coupling element () and rotation of the belt shaft () in the belt webbing extraction direction, thereby the engagement wheel () undergoes relative rotation in relation to the pretensioner drive wheel () or to the belt shaft ().
