Abstract
A storage apparatus and program update method for reducing tediousness and complications of drive inventory management. A storage apparatusincludes a disk unitcomposed of a plurality of first drivesstoring first firmware of the same type, a controllerfor controlling data during operation of the first firmware, a relay device, and a second drive. Then, the second drivestores second firmware of the same type as that of the first firmware and third firmware of a type different from that of the first firmware. The controllerincludes: a firmware comparison unit for comparing the first firmware with the second firmware; a firmware comparison unit for deciding firmware to operate on the storage apparatusbased on the comparison result; and a firmware update unit for updating the firmware operating on the first driveor the second drivewith the decided firmware.
