Abstract

The invention provides a new ultraviolet light-emitting material and ultraviolet light source in which bacteriocidal performance, operating life, and luminescence efficiency are enhanced without any risk of adversely affecting human bodies. An ultraviolet light-emitting material has a composition as represented by Formula (A):(AlSc)O  (A)where a dopant, Sc is added to a matrix, AlO, and x satisfies 0<x<1.
