Abstract

Provided is an illumination device that is capable of improving the utilization efficiency of light, while being lighter and thinner. This illumination device () is provided with: a light source () that emits ultraviolet light; a light guide plate () that guides the light from the light source; an optical member () placed between the light source and the light guide plate and that allows ultraviolet light emitted from the light source to pass through and that reflects visible light; and a fluorescent member () that is arranged between an ultraviolet light incident surface () of the optical member and the light guide plate and that converts the ultraviolet light into visible light.
