Abstract
The haemostatic valve assembly () includes a housing () with a chamber () therewithin. A flexible valve element () is located in the chamber () and supported by the housing (). A resilient element (), for example of foam, is located in the chamber () and applies a constant closing force on the valve element (). The valve () can be opened by aspirating fluid held within the chamber (), for example by means of a pump or syringe, thereby to create a vacuum therein which compresses the resilient element (). Removal of the vacuum allows the resilient element () to expand again and to close the valve ().
