Abstract

Methods and Systems are disclosed for use in a communication systemto selectively delay transmitting a second negative acknowledgement (NAK) after an initial NAK has already been sent requesting retransmission of a corrupted packet. The receiving entityinitiates a NAK prohibit timerassociated with a specific NAKwhich prevents status reports to transmitting entityfrom including a retransmission of the specific NAK until the timer expires. Use of the NAK prohibit timerreduces the likelihood of spurious retransmissions from the transmitting entitycaused by a second NAK from the receiving entitywhen the retransmission process has already been initiated.
