Abstract

A downdraft gasifier () has an oxidant inlet (), a biomass injector (), a grate (), a gas exit port (), and an ash removal system (). A sensor () maintains the height of the bed and a rotating paddle () maintains the top of the bed () at an even height. The grate arrangement () is preferably a sliding grate arrangement which actively moves ash material through the grate. An in-bed oxidant distributor () injects oxidant within the bed.
