Abstract
The present invention relates to polycrystalline AlObodies based on melted aluminum oxide having a mean crystallite size of the primary crystals between 20 μm and 100 μm and a closed macroporosity between 10% by volume and 30% by volume. The polycrystalline AlObodies may be obtained by tapping out and quenching a liquid aluminum oxide melt and simultaneous seeding of the pouring stream with seed crystals and can be used advantageously for the production of abrasive materials and refractory products.
